BMW 550i xDrive: Neliveto ja V8 puhuttelevat

Ulkopuolisten ohikulkijoidenkin mielestä uusin 5-sarjalainen Bemari vaikuttaa kasvaneen tuntuvasti edeltäjään nähden, ja aivan selkeästi lähestyneen mitoiltaan 7-sarjaa. Onko kyseessä optinen harha tai pelkkää kuljettajan toiveajattelua?
Ei sentään! Tutkitaanpa hieman mittoja: Viitoselle kertyy Seiskaan nähden pituutta 4900/5070 mm, joten hyvin läheltä liippaa. Akseliväli merkitään vastaavasti 2970 (5) vs. 3070 mm (7), eikä sisäleveydessäkään jäädä aivan tavattomasti: 1860 (5) vs. 1900 mm (7).
Takaistuimella on vallan mukavasti jalkatilaa, kunhan etuistuimia ei säädetä korostetun taakse.
Jossain kohdin sentään ilmenee yllätys: perustavaratilan osalta uusi 5-sarjalainen pesee Seiskan, asetelmin 520 l/500 l.
Tavattoman kierrosherkkä, kahdella rinnakkaisella turboahtimella, kahdella ahtoilman jäähdyttimellä sekä neljällä yläpuolisella nokka-akselilla toteutettu V8-bensiinimoottori (407 hv) on 550:n ehdoton kruunujalokivi, jolla sopii suit sait vastata liikennevirran pärskeisiin: 600 Nm mahtivääntö nimittäin jakautuu superlavealle 1750–4500 kierrokselle.
Ruudikas V8 ja neliveto siivittävät 550i:n aika ilmiömäiseen 23,3 sekunnin seisovan kilometrin arvoon!
Suorituskykyä tältä autolta ei puutu, sillä raju 4,8 sekunnin kiihtyvyys ja 23,3 sekunnin seisovan kilometrin arvo ottavat nelivedon pidosta huolimatta vatsanpohjasta! 550i xDrive ei todellakaan sovi miksikään juuri ajokortin saaneen ajokiksi. Teho-painosuhteeksi ilmoitetaan asiallisen alhaiset 4,6 kg/hv.
Mureat lauluäänet on kurja kyllä vaimennettu mahdollisimman tehokkaasti, vaikka repertuaaria riittäisi enemmän kuin Kim Borgilla, Tapio Rautavaaralla ja Pepe Willbergillä yhteensä. Mittasimme keskikulutukseksi asialliset 11,9 l/100 km, joka ei tehokkaalle nelivetoiselle ole todellakaan korkea.
Sähköisesti tehostetun ohjauksen keskialuetuntuma on tyydyttävä, mutta voisi olla vielä tarkempikin. Kehittynyt, jatkuva neliveto avittaa osaltaan menemisen vakautta ja kuuluu mallin loistopuoliin. Jäykäksi viilattu jousitus toimii sekin hienosti, vaikka kuoppaisella tiellä on jonkin verran pintakovuutta. Pitkissä heitoissa iskunvaimennus on normaalilla ja Comfort-asennolla hieman liian pehmeä, joten Sport-moodia vain peliin.
Sähkösäätöiset etuistuimet antavat hyvän yleistuen, joskin sivutukea voisi olla lisää. Ajoasennosta saa erittäin pätevän ja HUD-näyttö tuulilasissa on selkeä. Yksilön HUD edusti vielä niin sanottua aiempaa sarjaa, sillä jatkossa informaatiotarjonta on laajempaa. Nyt näytöllä on nopeuden ohella navitiedot. HUD-näytön ”kehykset” heijastavat jonkinasteisesti tuulilasiin.
HUD-näytöltä on helpointa tarkkailla ajonopeutta tai navigaattorin ohjeita.
Takaistuimella jalkatilat riittävät, kunhan etuistuimia ei säädetä korostetun taakse; tällöin pitkäjalkaiselle tulee ahdasta. Päätilaa on kohtuullisesti ja käynti ovista sujuu nopeasti.
Mikäli takaselkänojat kaadetaan alas, saadaan muodostetuksi lähes tasainen kuormapinta, joka toimii ehdottomana lisäetuna edustustason autossa. Aukon sivuttainen avaruus tosin jää leveitä tavaroita ajatellen kapeaksi.
Etuistuimiin kuuluvat monipuoliset sähkösäädöt sekä säädettävä reisityyny.
Tarvinneeko tuota kertoakaan, mutta 550 xDrivessa on nelivedon lisäksi tietenkin ärhäkkä V8-moottori, jolle on helppo menettää sydämensä…
