Tiesitkö, että Belgian pohjoisrannikolle ajautunut kaskelotti pystyy tuottamaan 50 000 kWh biosähköä? Sellaisella määrällä esimerkiksi Nissan Leaf pystyisi liikkumaan 365 000 kilometriä!
Peräti 13-metrisen ja 25 tonnia painavan kaskelotti-raukan ruho joudutaan hyödyntämään biopolttoaineeksi. Tehtävään erikoistunut yhtiö kerää talteen rasvan, joka sulatetaan ja puhdistetaan sekä jalostetaan.
Syntynyt biopolttoaine tuottaa 50 000 kWh sähköä. Määrä riittäisi Nissan Leafin käyttämiseen 365 000 kilometrin ajaksi.
Kaskelotti rantautui 8. helmikuuta 2012 toistaiseksi tuntemattomasta syystä Knokke-Heistin rannalle, Belgiassa. Eläinsuojeluyhdistys PETA kritisoi prosessia ja vaati valaan hautaamista mereen.
