1959 Corvette kiihtyy 0-100 km/h vain 3,9 sekunnissa

Chevrolet Corvette, joka nykyään tunnetaan pelkän Corvetten nimellä, on aina ollut amerikkalaisten urheiluautojen ikoni. Kentuckyn Bowling Greenissa on valmistettu nopeita, lujitemuovikorisia sportteja jo lähes 60 vuoden ajan.
Juttumme 1959-mallinen yksilö lukeutuu Corvetten ensimmäiseen sukupolveen, jota tehtiin 1953–1962. Tosin tämän stoorin autolla ei ole alkuperäisen viis-ysin kanssa enää mitään muuta tekemistä kuin ulkomuodon peruslinjat.
Yksilöön asennettiin nykyistä Chevrolet-tekniikkaa, ja toteutuksesta vastasi saksalainen virityspaja nimeltä Pogea Racing.
Projekti-Corvetten takaosaa on levennetty 37 mm, nykylukemaan 2090 mm. Pogea ideoi takavaloiksi kahden alkuperäisen sijaan neljä vastaavan näköistä valoa. Ne eivät kuitenkaan ole teknisesti alkuperäiset, vaan vastaavat nykyaikaisia Ferrari 458 Italian LED-takavaloja.
Miksi Vetteen oikeastaan piti saada lisää leveyttä taakse? Muuten alle olisi ollut mahdotonta sulloa kolmiosaisia, 12 x 19 -tuumaisia kevytmetallivanteita, varustettuna 305-sarjan renkain. Leveät renkaat ovat välttämättömät, jotta 485 hv tehot saadaan välitetyksi tien pintaan.
Konepellin alla on nykyisen Corvetten 6,2-litrainen LS3 V8, johon on asennettu jyrkempi nokka-akseli, virityspakoputkisto sekä Corvette Z06:n imuventtiilit. Ne varmistavat räjähtävän 485 hv tehon ja 585 Nm maksimivääntöä. Peräksi valittiin erityiskestävä Dana 44, joka sietää 1000 Nm väännön.
LED-takavalot ovat epätavallisesti tuplat, ja kaiken lisäksi ne vastaavat teknisesti Ferrari 458:n takalyhtyjä.
Pogea Vettessa on monia nykypäivän mukavuuksia, kuten kosketusnäyttö. Voi kuitenkin keskustella, sopiiko kuvan ohjauspyörä ominaistyyliin.

Alkuperäisessä 1959 Corvettessa oli enimmillään 290 hevosvoimaa.
Lujitemuovikori alla on Pogea Racingin ja maineikkaan, amerikkalaisen hot rod -rakentajan, Chip Foosen yhteistyössä toteuttama putkikehikko.
186-senttinen kuljettaja mahtuu juuri sopivasti Vallelunga-ohjauspyörän taakse. Makuasia, sopiiko sellainen ruoteli klassikkoauton tyyliin, mutta tämä on eurototeutus.
Erikoisuutta antaa keskikonsolin Alpine-multimediajärjestelmä, johon kuuluu kosketusnäyttö.
Mutta nyt asiaan! Virta-avaimen hipaisu saa alumiinisen Chevrolet LS3 -veekahdeksikon mylvimään. Virityspakoputkiksi valittiin Edelbrockin 45-milliset, jotka laulavat komealla nuotilla.
Koska Vette kiihtyy nollasta sataan vain 3,9 sekunnissa, kiihtyvyys liimaa kuljettajan istuimeen ja äänimaailma on uskomattoman upea.
Huippunopeutta luvataan 288 km/h.
Viis-ysin ohjaamossa esiintyy runsaasti 1950-luvun tyylistä punaista nahkaa, eikä siis mitään airbageja, ajonhallintajärjestelmää tai ABS-jarruja.
Tämä Corvette maksaa Saksassa 225 000 euroa, mutta Eduard Pogean mukaan “asiakkaiden erityistoivomukset voivat nostaa summan pilviin”. Hieman vähemmin muutoksin, suorituskyvystä tinkimättä, voidaan päästä 80 000–100 000 euroon.
